Sarehole Mill

Sarehole Mill

Sarehole Mill was built in 1765 on the site of a previous building called Biddle's Mill which dates back to 1540. It has been used as a corn grinding mill but in the early part of the 19th century, it was used for blade grinding as well as making flour. During the Summer months this Famous Mill is still used. It has been restored over the years by J R R Tolkien. This Mill Famously mention in the Lord of The Rings, was a childhood haunt of the author and it is thought the Mill and the surrounding area have been an influence on J R R Tolkien's novels. School visits are available all year round.
