Through the Summer months you can have guided walks including bug hunts for the children. You can see and hunt out many types of animals and birds in their natural habitat, including the Yellow Wagtail and Reed Warblers. There is a full programme of events, including birdwatching for beginners and nestbox-building days. The visitor centre is a must, refreshments available and the hide (limited opening hours) which allows awesome views of birds on the lake and its shores.
By car: From Birmingham city centre, take the Walsall Road (A34) to Scott Arms and turn left into Newton Road (A4041). Take Hamstead Road (B4167), which is fifth on the left near the bottom of the hill by the church (look for the brown sign marked RSPB nature centre). Take Tanhouse Avenue on the right (off the mini roundabout just before Hamstead school). The entrance to the reserve is through a gateway on the left (there is another brown sign marked RSPB) continue past the first car park over the railway bridge to the RSPB car park outside the visitor centre.
9 am-5 pm from Tuesday to Friday and 10 am-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday (closes at dusk in winter). Reserve - open at all times
